What happens when dirt builds up?
Soiling reduces the light reaching the solar cells. Localized deposits, such as bird droppings, can shade parts of a module. The effect varies with the site, weather and type of deposit.

Why cleaning matters
Dust, sand, pollen and bird droppings can build up on solar panels, block sunlight and reduce energy output. Cleaning can help address these deposits as part of a maintenance plan suited to your site.
The effect of soiling varies with location, weather and panel layout. Review system performance and compare the expected benefit of cleaning with the cost before deciding when and how to clean.
Soiling reduces the light reaching the solar cells. Localized deposits, such as bird droppings, can shade parts of a module. The effect varies with the site, weather and type of deposit.
Rain may wash away loose dust, but some deposits can remain on the surface. Inspect your panels and decide whether further cleaning is needed for your site.
Abrasive tools and unsuitable cleaning agents can damage the surface or coating. Follow the module manufacturer's instructions for tools, water quality and cleaning conditions.
Identify the deposit before choosing your cleaning equipment.
Airborne dirt from roads, construction, agriculture and industry can settle across the glass.
Seasonal pollen can collect on panel surfaces. Check the site during local pollen season.
Concentrated deposits can shade individual areas of a module and need attention.
Fallen leaves and loose plant material can cover cells and collect along panel edges.
Persistent growth needs careful assessment. Ask the module supplier about an approved treatment.
Residue near industrial or agricultural sites may require a method specific to the contamination.
Share photos of your panels, the site layout and water supply so we can discuss a suitable setup.
Cleaning frequency and results depend on site conditions. Follow the PV module manufacturer's cleaning instructions.

Practical answers
Costs, equipment selection and cleaning methods for your next project.
There is no single price for every site. The cost of each cleaning visit depends on the panel area, dirt level, access, local labor rates, water supply and travel. For your own cleaning team, also include equipment, transport, power, replacement brushes and maintenance.
CHUANMAI supplies cleaning equipment. For an equipment quotation, send your country, cleaning area, panel layout and preferred brush or robot. The quotation will specify the selected configuration, accessories and shipping terms.
Cleaning can be worthwhile when the value of energy lost to dirt exceeds the cost of cleaning. The result depends on local dust, rainfall, panel tilt, electricity value and how quickly dirt returns.
Use site inspections and performance records to assess the need. Compare output under similar weather conditions, and check for other causes of reduced generation. A cleaning schedule should reflect your site; there is no guaranteed production increase or universal cleaning interval.
A telescopic brush may suit smaller or separated areas, panel edges and sites where an operator can reach the panels from a suitable working position. Confirm the required reach, brush format and water supply.
A remote-controlled robot may suit larger, continuous panel areas with a compatible layout. Check slope, gaps, edges, access and handling between rows. CHUANMAI's robot uses handheld remote control and requires an operator. Send site photos and measurements so we can compare the options.
Consider a robot when you have repeat cleaning work, a compatible panel layout and enough annual use to justify the investment. Compare its total operating cost with your current cleaning method, including setup, transfers between rows, operator time, transport, water, maintenance and spare parts.
Base the decision on your own workload and a representative equipment demonstration. Larger area alone does not guarantee a shorter payback period; suitability and actual time saved matter too.
Loose dust may be removed with suitable water and a compatible soft brush. Some stubborn deposits may need a different treatment. Follow the module manufacturer's instructions for water quality, brush material, cleaning pressure and any permitted cleaning agent.
Use a cleaning agent only if the module manufacturer permits it, at the specified dilution and with the required rinsing. Confirm compatibility with the module coating and the cleaning equipment before use. Do not assume ordinary household chemicals are suitable.
